A few readers have reached out to me to let me know that they found the book helpful, especially as they attempt to do the same in this difficult Bay Area real estate market. After having completed the home and the book, I've come to realize that this approach has become more and more relevant, as the prices of homes continue to climb on the Peninsula. For some, this really may be the only way to get the home that they want. One caveat: as the prices of houses have risen, so to have the costs of construction. Budgeting, shopping and proactive decision making (to secure the work) will be even more important as the margins from retail cost decline. Good luck to all of you who plan to do the same and let me know how it's going!
